Taking too many pictures is literally a trap and even if you try to avoid it, there is still a chance you’ll end up having similar shots and you’ll have to choose between them. I absolutely agree with #5, too: while sometimes blurry shots can be saved by a vintage effect or a grainy photo filter, it’s not worth the trouble in 9 out of 10 cases. Reject it and never look back unless you really like the picture and there is no better version of it.

I prefer doing the culling in several steps: I get rid of all the awful pics (blurry shots, eyes closed, etc) first, then do something else for some time and then go back to get rid of some duplicates. Taking a break really helps because when you look through 500+ photos at once it’s getting hard to tell a rather mediocre shot from a really good one. Working in team is also great: you can make a Smartshow 3d or Adobe spark slideshow and send it to your assistant or someone you trust to get their opinion on what shots are worth keeping.

Sometimes, I keep a bit blurry photo, because I don’t have a better photo reflecting that moment, situation, people, mood, atmosphere…

20 years ago, 60 pages lasted 2, 3 years; and a vacation was 6 pages max.
And today? 4 weeks abroad fill 60 pages like nothing!

Still, I am not willing to let go of the good old photo albums. A few years ago it was difficult to buy them in stores. In 2017 the supply in the shops is growing.

What makes it hard: I love the photos, almost all of them. I kept looking at them over the past decade (yes, it took me that long to get started with the album project).

Good news: This is doable! It has to be. 🙂
